About.

Allow us to introduce the work of the Food Bank

Established in 1996

Prior to the establishment of the Markdale and District Food Bank, families in need were assisted for about 13 years by our neighbouring community, Owen Sound, and The Salvation Army Food Bank. In 1996, a group of local concerned citizens established what is now an independently-run community food bank that is proud to serve our friends here in the community of Markdale and surrounding area.

Our Purpose

The purpose of the Food Bank is to organize the procurement and distribution of food and related supplies to those individuals and families of Markdale and District deemed in need of these goods on an emergency, short-term or ongoing basis.

How we Operate

The Food Bank is operated by volunteers; there is no paid staff. Our Directors are responsible for governance, who along with other volunteers handle collection, sorting and the distribution of food.
